Mirror, meet Me.

Glow Through It – Lighter, Brighter, Me

Shrek? Is that, me?!

The woman I see in the mirror is not the one that shows up in pictures.

Have you ever noticed that?

You spend so much time picking out the right dress, doing your hair and makeup, making sure you look like a damn snack when you walk out that door – then halfway through the night someone takes a picture, and you look like, Shrek?!

Where the fuck did that hot piece of ass go?  She got eaten by Shrek, that’s where she went.  For once, I would like the woman in the mirror to stay when we went out.  I don’t want her disappearing…

I’ve decided I am done losing that woman in the mirror!  I want her to stick around no matter where life takes me.  I know she is there waiting to come out – I just have to find her and tie her down!  Taking this journey of self-discovery is going to be a challenge, for sure, but I am ready.  Like any wife and mother, I have spent many years putting others before my own well-being and it shows.  I am tired, I have gained a ton of weight, I put my career aspirations on hold, and I don’t prioritize self-care.  (Note: I love staying home with the littles – that is something I will never regret!)

That changes now. Today! Well, yesterday if I am being honest. I have a plan, I have lists, I have goals. I am going to lay it all out here so I can keep myself accountable and maybe encourage another woman or two. It’s hard to do this but knowing there’s someone else out there feeling a similar way is empowering. You are not alone.

So here we go!

Plan:

  1. Start eating a clean, low carb diet in hopes of fixing my Hashimoto’s Disease;
  2. Workout at least 5 days a week. Lift weights/body weight workouts; utilize the kids trampoline for a low impact, high yield workout; walk on rest days.
  3. Target areas: belly, arms and butt. I already have killer legs 🙂
  4. Build consistency and stamina.
  5. Hydrate, sleep, listen to my body and be patient.
  6. Celebrate both weigh loss and non-scale victories. Clothes fitting better? More energy? Less Pain? Win! Win! Win!
  7. Track thyroid symptoms and take thyroid meds/supplements consistently.
  8. Post daily affirmations to stay motivated.

Goals:

  1. Meet monthly weight loss goals. Shed pounds and gain muscle.
  2. Keep a consistent clean low carb diet. Nutrition is key and staying consistent is a huge factor.
  3. Be able to do a plank for more than 1 minute; complete weighted squats; jog a 5k.
  4. Learn to ice skate. My fat ass is scared to fall on the ice at this current weight.
  5. Reward myself along the way. Don’t forget you are your biggest supporter and should treat yourself to something nice along this journey.

So there it is, the start to one hell of a journey.
